Broke Mill RV Park, located in Del Rio Texas has been our primary go to private RV park for coming and going between San Antonio and the Big Bend region in Texas. The park is located on US-90 next to where the Del Rio US-90 bypass drops back onto US-90. The bypass gets travelers from Del Rio’s eastside (just west of Laughlin Airforce Base) to Del Rio’s west side. This save considerable time and frustration by avoiding slow congested stoplight to stoplight traffic.

New signs let drivers know to slow down and look for the park. The eastbound sign is shown above.

One of my favorite park features is dinner and a show. Before Covid, the park was putting on BBQ dinners with all the trimmings followed up with live music. Dancing is encouraged. Fiddler’s Hall, where the events are held, has that Texas dancehall feel (only with good air conditioning). These were truly entertaining. The food was super good. The park plans to renew this tradition as soon as Covid restrictions allow. Can’t wait!

Campsites are level. Power, sewer and water are all good. Never problems with power poles. Mobile phone service is good. Full bars LTE on ATT. Over the air TV stations are in the area. Roughly half carry Spanish language content. Guests tend to be quiet. There is highway noise from US-90 and the Del Rio bypass. 18-Wheelers gearing up and down as they move between bypass and open road.

Bathrooms and showers are clean and not overused. Behind the restrooms is a nice little swimming pool.

The on-site laundromat is also clean. The machines are in good order and relatively recent. The layout seems sharp as well. The room through the open door has seating. Makes it comfortable and easy to know when a load is done.

The dog park has a place to wash dogs. There is a large tub for dunking small to medium dogs in. For larger dogs, there is room to stand by dogs while hosing them down, lathering them up and then rinsing them off. The water isn’t heated. This park feature would best be utilized in warmer weather. Benji likes being off leash to do his business. The park does a good job of keeping burs out of the dog park, something that smaller dogs would definitely appreciate.

For longer walks, there is a gate to a trail in the park’s northwest corner.

Hikers cross the street and can go at least half a mile before the trail disappears into the brush. There is no shade along this trail and the area is excessively hot during afternoons in warm months. Early mornings and an hour before sunset on hot days would be appropriate. The dog likes this trail. Rabbits have been seen along the trail from time to time. The dog is never off-leash in areas like this.

The park’s owners are generally on site. The owners take an active interest in making this the best RV park experience in the area. Their employees are always courteous, kind and helpful.
We keep staying here so it must be good!
On this particular trip, we stayed three nights. Normally, we stay only one night. We used this park as a base for daily drives up to Devils River State Natural Area (SNA). Devils River SNA is an 1.5 to 1.75 hour drive from Broke Mill RV Park. More about Devils River SNA in a following post.
Hope to see you on the road ahead!
