Lubbock KOA Journey

Lubbock KOA Journey

Lately I’ve run into some folks that don’t see the value in KOA campgrounds.  This is why I like staying at KOA campgrounds when I need an overnight stay:

  • Water, sewer and electric that works
  • Mostly level sites
  • Easy to use reservation website
  • Honor reseravations
  • Decent, regularly cleaned bathhouses
  • Many have propane, fuel, ice, ice cream

  • Many now have nice dog runs/parks
  • No surprises – things are generally what they ought to be

Twenty years ago, early in our camping, we stayed overnight at a highly rated campground in Fort Stockton, Texas.  It was the worst place we have ever (EVER!) overnighted.   It was remarkably horrible.  I fact, we still talk about it just about every time we drive through Fort Stockton.

Stay where you like.  I prefer to trust the KOA brand over some inadequate RV park rating system.

We stayed at the Lubbock KOA which is on US-84.  It was on our route from Santa Rosa and conveniently located for our trip.  Level sites, trees, clean and functional bath houses.  Good service and ice cream sandwiches.   The dogs really liked the dog park.

Las Brisas Southwest Steakhouse

We met friends in Lubbock for a special occasion dinner at Las Brisas. You don’t run across Beef Wellington very often so we all had to have their Beef Wellington. I have to admit that I like the pastry part of the Beef Wellington better at Crumpets Restaurant & Bakery in San Antonio but the beef here at Las Brisas was considerably better.

The Beef Wellington came with creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes. The beef was done medium well.

For desert, I had something like apple strudel with a scoop of ice cream only better followed by decaf coffee.

I would come here again for another special occasion, in part because of the superb service and partly for the food. Good food, excellent service.  Linda was underwhelmed by the food.  She told me the next day that she thought the food was overpriced for what we got.  I think she would choose a different restaurant in the future.  Linda is a better judge of restaurants than I am.

Hope to see you on the road ahead!
