For the first time ever, the assigned deluxe patio site exceeded expectations.
- The site was just as long as the other deluxe patio sites.
- Befitting the arid environment, river rock was used around the campsite keeping out noxious weeds and burrs.
- All deluxe patio sites had privacy fences on both sides.
- There was a table with four comfortable chairs.
- Chair cushions were stowed out of the weather in the patio box.
- There was a separate picnic table.
- The large fire ring was tastefully set into the patio.
- The outdoor grill, while small, was top of the line.

Interstate 40 borders the Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA Journey on one side. Normally, in instances like this where there is clear line of site between a campsite and the freeway, one would expect loads of traffic noise.

Freeway nose was minimal and easily drowned out by A/C or Fantastic Vent Fans.
Restrooms were clean and functional. They were of the common KOA style.

The park store carried the usual KOA items like ice, snacks and barbecue briquettes. The park’s staff was friendly, helpful and efficient.
The laundry facility was too small and the machines looked worn. Two of the driers were out-of-order. We decided to try out the local Holbrook laundromat instead.

We changed our minds after we drove up to it. Not only did the Wash ‘n Clean World Laundromat have horrible reviews, it had a sign on the front telling patrons that there was no hot water. NO HOT WATER!

The next town, Winslow Arizona, has a much better laundromat.

Only 35 miles down I-40, is the Handee II Laundromat, a laundromat we had used in April/May 2018 while staying at Homolovi State Park.

The Handee II was definitely worth the drive. Available hot water. Clean floors, bathrooms and machines. Modern Dexter front loader washers in a variety of different sizes. Few were out-of-order. Much better than Wash ‘n Clean World in Holbrook or the KOA’s laundromat.

Just inside the Holbrook KOA park entrance, on the left, is a cafe of sorts that was open for breakfast and dinner while we were there. We didn’t sample their food but others did while we were there. It looked like a decent operation.
The park’s WIFI service was OK although the password printed in the park map/handout was wrong. AT&T and Verizon cell service was good. Mobile Internet service on both carriers was better than the park WIFI.
I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
This KOA is within a relatively short drive to Petrified Forest National Park which is why we chose this park.
Hope to see you on the road ahead!
