Sunday, January 5 Through Saturday, January 11, 2020
For many, the Texan RV Park in Athens, Texas is a destination park even though Athens isn’t exactly a tourist mecca. Athens is roughly 90 miles east of Waco, Texas.

The Texan RV Park became a destination park for me when I heard about the onsite NRVTA (National RV Training Academy), a training facility for NRVIA and RVIA certification.

I arrived on Sunday in order to be in the classroom by 8:00 AM Monday morning. With reservations, the checking process was quick and simple. The staff was helpful, friendly and efficient.

The assigned campsite was large enough to easily accommodate a 45 foot diesel pusher with trailer. While the spot was level side to side, a single layer of leveling blocks were needed to raise the front of the truck.

A building with unisex bathrooms and a laundromat was nearby. The bathrooms were always clean. The laundromat appeared to be better than usual. Everyday, campers were happily doing their laundry there.

The RV park has three lakes. It wasn’t clear what water activities are or are not allowed.

A church is onsite with services on Sunday and Bible study Thursday evenings.

While the weather wasn’t cold for January, it was cool enough to need overnight heat. Midweek, after running one of the propane bottles out, I got the tank filled. I carried the empty tank the ¼ mile from the campsite to the filling station. After filling the tank, the attendant was kind enough to give me and the now full heavier propane tank back to my site. These sorts of little things that people don’t have to do add up. A simple kindness that means so much.

Normally, we travel as a family. Linda, me and the dogs. This trip, I came alone. I didn’t want any distractions from the training course. However, I still scoped out the dog friendly facilities so that next time, I’ll know what to expect. This dog park has two separate sections to it.
Over-The-Air (antenna) TV reception is good and includes the major networks. The park WIFI works well until the evening when everyone is on it. Verizon and AT&T mobile data service is good.

This is a great campground. Plenty of space. Good people. It really complements the onsite training facility. This is an important aspect of the training facility as some people in my class were planning on multiple training classes back-to-back. I could see someone being here for months.
Hope to see you on the road ahead!
