Since we both retired, we have been having continued conversations on the pros and cons of extended travel versus full-timing. In short, extended travelers go out on long trips and return to sticks and bricks homes. For full-timers, their RV is their home 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year.
Howard and Linda Payne on What Is Full-Timing & Who Are Full-Timers?
In September, we bought a second home in St. Louis Missouri to be closer to family. The biggest advantage to this condominium townhouse is it can be left for long periods of time, something that can’t be done with our San Antonio house. The San Antonio house went on the market at the beginning of October and sold immediately. We are moving our household items to St. Louis mid November.
For the foreseeable future we will continue to domicile in Texas. San Antonio is where our RV storage and doctors are. The plan is to continue to spend winters in the RV in and around Texas. Then the rest of the year will be spent exploring North America while dropping by St. Louis from time to time.
What we are doing is not exactly full-timing and not exactly extended travel. Let’s call it “part-timing.”
Hope to see you on the road ahead!
